Brian
R. Ewing was born in northern
Ontario in 1956. He moved to Calgary, Alberta
when he was ten and has lived there since.
He first became interested in photography
in 1976. A hobby soon became a career, and
between 1977 and 1979 he worked as a photographer
for the Edmonton Sun, ran his own business
shooting weddings, and became a retailer
in the photography industry. In 1979 he
left it all to pursue a career with the
Calgary Police Service. The next 25 years
were spent dividing his time between law
enforcement and part time photography.
Retired
from policing since 2004, Brian has returned
to photography full time. An avid outdoorsman,
he spends a great deal of his photographic
time in the country. Anything can and will
become his subject, but presenting the old
west and the western way of life through
his images is his specialty and passion.
So much of it is fast disappearing.
Although
much of his time is spent creating his own
fine art photography, Brian occasionally
takes assignments on request, photographing
events such as world class horse shows at
Spruce Meadows. His work has been published
in both Canada and the United States.
